Not to point out the environmental impact of continuing to burn fossil fuels. We need to establish tidy, eco-friendly sources of energy.
Just recently I did a number of posts on natural gas. It's a cleaner burning fuel, and what I particularly like about it is that the United States has a heck of a great deal of it deep underground. I'm personally all for energy self-reliance, and one of the ways to get there is the "all of the above" theory. That implies including fossil fuels.
The oil industry can relate. Heck, listen to any political leader discuss cutting policy and opening up opportunity for exploratory drilling or shale oil extraction. "Everyone needs a little help," or so says the grime-encrusted indication the homeless guy holds up near the shopping mall.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. American individualism and the liberty to pursue dreams in the United States has actually driven many to break barriers and attain success and scientific discovery.
